Promescent had outgrown its Magento 2 stack. Years of historical orders and customer relationships made every change risky. New marketplaces, Walmart, Target, Amazon, eBay, were waiting on a platform that could keep up. And the Rx side of the business needed an entirely different compliance posture from the DTC catalogue.
Conversion was sitting behind a heavy theme. Klaviyo, Reviews.io, and discount tooling lived in islands. Reporting was scattered across ad networks, marketplace dashboards, and spreadsheets. And the prescription business needed regulated, HIPAA-aware infrastructure that no off-the-shelf Shopify app would solve on its own.
The brief was direct: re-platform without losing a single record, add the missing capabilities, and build it all so the team could keep shipping after migration without going back to a vendor for every change.

The approach
Built around a composable operating model
We replaced a single platform with a system: Shopify Plus where it makes sense, our own services where it doesn't. Four principles hold the whole thing together.
Re-platform without data loss
Millions of historical orders, customers, subscriptions, and product attributes mapped and migrated from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus, preserving identity, history, and continuity through cutover.
Composable commerce engine
Shopify Plus at the storefront, DigitalOcean infrastructure behind it. Custom services own everything Shopify can't natively handle, Rx workflows, multi-channel sync, reporting, and integrations.
Conversion-engineered, not just designed
Every storefront decision validated via A/B testing. Abandoned cart, dynamic recommendations, popups, post-checkout upsells, and blog upsell blocks tuned against real funnel behaviour.
Compliance + scale, in the same release
HIPAA-aware Rx flows, multi-channel listing automation, and cross-platform visibility checks ship inside the same delivery rhythm, regulated and unregulated revenue moving in lockstep.

01 / Re-platform & Data Migration
Magento 2 → Shopify Plus, with millions of records intact
- Full Magento 2 → Shopify Plus re-platform, including theme rebuild, product catalog re-architecture, and checkout reconfiguration.
- Millions of orders and customer records migrated end-to-end, with subscription history, identity, and order lookup preserved through cutover.
- Product taxonomy, metadata, SEO redirects, and historical URLs remapped to retain organic equity post-migration.
02 / Conversion-Engineered Storefront
UI/UX and A/B testing built around the buyer's actual path
- Iterative A/B testing program across PDP, collection, cart, and checkout, each release backed by a hypothesis and a measurement plan.
- Streamlined abandoned-cart recovery and checkout flows, with post-checkout upsell blocks to lift average order value without sacrificing UX.
- Built a product recommendation quiz, dynamic in-cart recommendations, store locator, and inline upsell blocks inside long-form blog articles.
03 / Marketing Automation & Social Proof
Lifecycle, popups, reviews, and discounts as one orchestrated system
- Klaviyo set up end-to-end, flows, segmentation, transactional, and lifecycle journeys connected to Shopify Plus and the Rx engine.
- Geo-targeted popup system for region-specific offers, eligibility messaging, and capture campaigns layered on top of Klaviyo segments.
- Reviews.io implementation for collection and display, plus an auto-discount manager that runs offers without manual coupon ops.

Prescription generation and management for regulated-market sales
- Built a prescription management system to handle the lifecycle of Rx orders, patient intake, eligibility, status, and provider visibility.
- Built a prescription generation pipeline to enable selling of regulated products in markets that require an authoring step.
- Implemented HIPAA-aware data handling for storage, transport, and access boundaries between marketing, fulfilment, and the Rx system.
06 / Reporting, SEO & DevOps
Custom dashboards, structured data, and infra to keep it all running
- Triplewhale wired in for ad attribution; a custom dashboard consumes purpose-built reports to give a single, generalised view of the business.
- LD+JSON / Schema.org structured data implemented across products, articles, FAQs, and reviews, boosting SEO surface and rich-result eligibility.
- DigitalOcean infrastructure hosts the backend automations, cron services, and integration glue, the system that runs while no one watches.
